(UnitedVoice.com) – Former President Donald Trump finally announced his vice presidential pick after months of speculation. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) is running alongside the Republican nominee. President Joe Biden’s campaign and Democrats quickly began criticizing Vance.

On July 15, Jen O’Malley Dillon, the co-chair of Biden’s campaign, issued a statement accusing Trump of choosing Vance because he thought the senator would do what former Vice President Mike Pence refused to do on January 6, 2021. She said Vance would “bend over backwards to enable Trump […] even if it means breaking the law” and hurting Americans.

O’Malley Dillon also said that Vance would “make it his mission” to implement the policies contained in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 agenda. She pointed to the senator’s refusal to support the outcome of the 2020 election in the months after the results were released and his pro-life positions. The chairwoman said the people rooting for the senator are “billionaires and corporations” because they think Trump and Vance “will cut their taxes and send prices skyrocketing for everyone else.”

Democrats also quickly seized on Vance’s previous comments about Trump. In 2016, the Republican wrote a message to a friend, saying he went back and forth between thinking Trump was like former President Richard Nixon or more like “America’s [Adolf] Hitler.” He also said his running mate was a “moral disaster.”

The Left is also trying to paint Vance as an extremist when it comes to abortion. Reproductive Freedom for All President Mini Timmaraju claimed Trump and Vance would “jeopardize reproductive freedom in all 50 states,” if they win in November. In 2021, the Ohio senator said he didn’t support abortions in cases of rape and incest because “two wrongs don’t make a right,” but he has altered his views to more closely align with the former president in recent months.

Donald Trump Jr. brushed off the criticism from the Left and called Vance “an incredible pick […] an incredible person to help unify this country.”
