Democratic Group Looks to Oust Squad Members

(UnitedVoice.com) – Since 2018, the so-called “Squad” has been the focus of far-left activism in Congress. Now, it’s under threat from its own party. A group of moderate Democrats, disgusted by the radical group’s position on the Israel-Hamas war, is working to overthrow two of its more outspoken members.

Since Hamas attacked Israel last October, members of the Squad have made a series of alarming comments about the war. Two of the worst offenders have been Representatives Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Cori Bush (D-MO). Bowman dismissed reports of sexual violence against Israeli women as “propaganda” — the reports were later verified by the UN — while Bush has accused Israel of deliberately targeting hospitals and “ethnic cleansing” against the Palestinians. She’s also complained that the US, by supporting the Jewish state, is “funding atrocities.”

Bush has backed fellow Squad member Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) after she was censured by the House for anti-Israel rants. Meanwhile, Bowman supports controversial Muslim leader Louis Farrakhan, who has described Jews as “termites.”

Now a powerful PAC, the Democratic Majority For Israel (DMFI), has endorsed candidates running against the pair. George Latimer, who’s currently the county executive of Westchester County, New York, is challenging Bowman. St Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell will be taking on Bowman in the primary this summer.

As well as its endorsement, the PAC has around $3 million it can add to their campaign funds. PAC chairman Mark Mellman has already released a statement praising Latimer as a “proud pro-Israel Democrat,” and slamming Bowman’s “troubling” record, which he said includes trying to damage the US-Israel alliance and ignoring antisemitism in his district.

The Squad has been a rallying point for the Democratic Party’s far left since the Trump administration, but as it’s grown beyond its original four members it seems to be losing support among mainstream Democrats. If DMFI can unseat two of its most extreme members, that can help make Congress more effective for ordinary Americans.
