Top Republican RESIGNS After Serious Allegations!
Top Republican Resigns Amid Allegations
(UnitedVoice.com) – The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is the primary fundraising arm for the House GOP. Since 1866, the committee has supported electing Republicans to the lower chamber and several other party operations. Rather than focusing on what happened in the 2022 midterm elections and trying to correct it, however, internal issues have the committee’s leadership in disarray.
On November 14, Punchbowl News revealed that NRCC Executive Director John Billings resigned after allegations of sexual misconduct arose in the workplace. Billings started with the organization in 2019. He ran the Patriot Program, funneling money to incumbent candidates seeking re-election. He then moved up to the director’s job in 2021.
The NRCC confirmed Billings no longer works there, adding the committee doesn’t speak to the press on personnel matters. Punchbowl revealed the committee suspended the former director before he resigned.

The scandal now falls on committee Chairman Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), who already has a lot of explaining to do after leading an underwhelming GOP performance in the midterms. Troubles within the NRCC could backfire and cause Emmer strife in his bid for an upcoming congressional leadership spot in the caucus.
Critics and strategists within the GOP said Emmer largely failed to deliver House seats in the midterm elections or results while investigating sexual harassment. “If you fail at your job, you shouldn’t get a promotion,” consultant Ryan James Girdusky told the Star Tribune regarding Emmer’s bid for House Whip.
