Beloved Actor Bloodied in Random Act of Violence

(UnitedVoice.com) – Actor Steve Buscemi is a beloved New Yorker and American icon. Before he made it in Hollywood, he was a firefighter. After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, he volunteered with the FDNY and helped them look for survivors at Ground Zero. Sadly, he was attacked in his hometown for no apparent reason.

On May 8, Buscemi was in Mid-Town Manhattan when someone walked up to him and punched him in the face. According to reports, the attack knocked him to the ground. He suffered injuries to his face and was taken to Bellevue Hospital to receive treatment.

CBS News obtained a video of the moments before the attack that showed the 66-year-old actor looking down at his phone while he walked through the Kips Bay neighborhood. It also showed the alleged suspect walking down the street, and it appeared that he was talking to himself.

After the attack, the suspect ran away from the area. Law enforcement is still looking for him. Buscemi’s publicist spoke to Fox News Digital and said the actor was “another victim of a random act of violence in the city.” They went on to say that Buscemi appreciated everyone’s support but that he was “incredibly sad for everyone” who had also been attacked while in the city.

Buscemi is the second actor to be physically assaulted while in the city. On March 31, Michael Stuhlbarg, Buscemi’s “Boardwalk Empire” co-star, was out for a run in Central Park when someone hit him with a rock in the back of the neck. The actor chased down his attacker, and they were arrested.

There have also been several incidents of people being pushed onto the train tracks while waiting for the subway. In March, a Bronx man was charged with murder after he pushed a stranger in front of a train. The victim, 53-year-old Jason Volz, died in the attack.
